This new concept has taken the credit card market by storm because people can directly relate the amount of money they spend to the amount of reward that they will get. The problem with older reward point based cards is that it was often hard to relate back to how much a point was actually worth in terms of dollars and cents. Each different credit card company had a different value for points. We knew that points often had exaggerated values and thus often paid little attention to them until you realized that you had too much and some were actually expiring so you opted to use the points to purchase the unnecessary food processor. The value to the credit card user was often quite minimal at best.

With cash back credit cards the value to the credit card user is immediately apparent. The agreement between the credit card provider and you is to scrap the point system and give you an immediate reward between 0.5% - 1.0% of the card value. Customers can easily see the great value in keeping the card. If you purchase something for $1,000 and you have a 1% money back reward system in place then you will get $10 back. If you have a credit card expenditure of $10,000 a month then you will get $100 back every month. Over months and years this can really make a difference and when compared to the point system it is well worth it.

If this sounds almost too good to be true, well, it is. There are quite a few small print items that many credit card users have not considered. Take for instance that the credit card company isn’t going to award you cash back rewards on every transaction you make. There are certain conditions that are necessary in order for the transaction to be eligible for a cash back reward. These conditions may be in terms of what day of month it is or the monetary value of the transaction. There is also normally a strict cap on how much money back reward you will receive on a single transaction. Having said that we still believe that cash back reward cards are still one of the best value credit cards for normal users.

The cash back reward scheme is one of the best ways methods to draw customers into signing up for a credit card. The benefits are very obvious and relate well to a tangible quality of cash that almost anyone can relate too. Having said that, the normal requirements of a good credit history are still important in the approval process of the cash back credit card.
